Italian: Spaghetti 
with tomatoes and basil 
 
 
2 tbs olive oil
225g spaghetti
 ...heat oil and cook spagetti (separetely :)

1 small onion, peeled and chopped
2 cloves of garlic, peeled and chopped
...until soft

(400g) tin of tomatoes
...squash them to your taste, and watch the pan start bubbling, then lower the heat and simmer for a while

6 basil leaves
pinch of sugar
salt
pepper
...create your own nuances.  I put a lot of basil, salt and pepper.

For the original guiding words, here´s what I read in my book:
 
 
Heat the oil in a saucepan, then fry the onions and garlic for 5 minutes or until they have softened. Add the other ingredients and cook for 15-20 minutes. Whilst the sauce is cooking prepare the spaghetti according to the instructions on the packet.  When the sauce is cooked pour into a blender and give it a whizz.  
Drain the pasta and mix thoroughly with the sauce. Grated parmesan can be sprinkled on top if required.
