Dear Iceland Lovers

Thank you for your interest in spending your vacation with us on horseback at Brimilsvellir.

Included below is the tentative itinerary as well as other important information for your travelling plans. Enjoy and start dreaming…

1st Day (day of arrival)

In the late afternoon we will pick you up in Reykjavk (either from the airport shuttle bus stop “BSอ” or from your hotel) and take you 200 km (150 miles) west to Brimilsvellir. After arriving at Brimilsvellir, we will have cosy dinner together and inform you about our plans for the days to come. Since there will be only up to 7 participants per week we will be able to take into consideration your preferences and ideas and adjust the schedule according to your individual wishes.

2nd  Day

Straight after breakfast you will finally have the chance to meet your horses and start off for a 3 hours ride. After saddling up, we will ride along the magnificent coastline and pass green meadows and salt marshes. Finally we will reach a long black sandy beach which invites us to a joyful gallop. We will then follow the river “Fossแ” (meaning: river with the waterfall) downhill to the valley “Fgruhli๐” (meaning: beautiful slope). There we will take a fine break after which we follow an ancient trail back home. In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to discover on foot our fascinating bird cliffs down our coast and if you are lucky, you might even meet the seals (Brimilsvellir has been named after those curious creatures)

3rd  Day

In the morning we will head off to an old stone fence which used to keep flocks of sheep together and we will ride over flowering pastures to the river “Fr๓๐แ” (frothy river) before we will, once more, have sandy beaches under our horseshoes. Here the Iceland horse feels at ease and it is great fun to experience the special gait of “Tlt”. Finally, we will ride along a very impressing salt water lake along beautiful waterfalls back home.

In the afternoon we will start our way on a 2 days horseback tour and take along additional horses. We will ride along the coast, passing cape “Hfi”. From there we will have an amazing view over the “Breiafjr๐” fiord, (meaning: the wide fiord) and over the impressing West fiords. We will ride on towards the beautiful Mount “Kirkjufell” (meaning : mountain with curch) where we will leave our horses for the night on the green meadows, while we will get back to our farm by car.

4th Day

Today our departure time from Brimilsvellir will depend on the tides of that particular day. During the high tide, Mount Kirkjufell is almost entirely covered with sea water but during low tide we can ride around the mountain on sandy beaches. This trip will be unforgettable. It will lead us through water and mud-flats, over green pastures and fascinating sand beaches. We will then stop for a delicious picnic before riding back to Brimilsvellir. This will be a very special all day tour and we will spend approximately 5 hours in the saddle.

5th  Day

Today the horses have a day to rest and revitalize while we head via car to the well-known volcanic glacier Snfellsjkull (def.: snow-covered glacier mountain). It has been said that Snfellsjkull has magical powers and is one of the 7 energetic centers of our planet. Anyone who has read Jules Verne’s “Journey to the Center of the Earth” knows that the entry to the center of the earth is right here! Maybe you will find it!We’ll drive around Snfellsjkull passing picturesque little fishing villages including “ำlafsvk”, “Rif” and “Hellisandur”. In Rif we will show you Icelands greatest breeding area of terns and in Hellisandur we will visit an open air museum with ancient houses made of peat where people from Iceland used to live not too long ago. We will continue our tour through idyllic fields of lava in the national park on the glaciers feet until we will arrive at an amazing bay called “Skarsvk”. Here we will experience the many colours of this area: yellow shell sand, turquoise ocean and black lava cliffs. We have often been lucky here and been able to observe whales from this bay. After having continued our trip for a short while, we will have a break at the volcano crater “Saxhll” and even have the opportunity to climb up to the top and have an unforgettable look into the crater. After this adventure we will have a relaxing picnic at a very popular stone beach called “Djpalnssandur”. Gathered new energy, we will head off for a nice walk along the coast from “Hellnar” to “Arnarstapi” (rock of eagles), where according to old stories elves are said to live. We will discover cliffs filled with birds and enjoy an astonishing view over the peninsula. (1)From there you have the chance to take a snow mobile up to the top of the glacier.

6th  Day

After breakfast we will once more head off for a 2 day trip on horseback. We will pass the beautiful plateau “Fro๐แrheii”. On the ancient idyllic track we will ride along amazing mountains spending about 3 to 4 hours in the saddle. After that we will take a good and refreshing break at the former market place called “B๚๐ir”, situated within romantic lava fields straight at the coast line. We will continue our way crossing the mouth of the river “B๚๐ars” finding ourselves surrounded by the Atlantic ocean to our right and green hills to our left while joyfully riding on sandy beaches once more before leaving our horses at “Garar” (Meaning: gardens) for the night. We will be driven back home to our farm surely with loads of food for thoughts and unforgettable memories.

7th  Day

Today – our last day with our horses – we will ride back to Brimilsvellir. Since by than we will have come to know our horses really well, we will have plenty of opportunities to this time simply enjoy the sandy beaches we discovered one day before. Once more we will have a glance on the majestic glacier “Snfellsjkull” that rises straight in front of our eyes. After we reach B๚๐ir, we will follow a picturesque mountain path along the sparkling river “Fr๓๐แrheii” which will eventually bring us back to Brimilsvellir. In the evening we will join for a joyous end of your stay on our farm.

8th day

After breakfast we will drive you back to Reykjavk and say you farewells.
