IÐUNN STEINSDÓTTIR was born in 1940 in Seyðisfjörður, a small fishing town on the east coast of Iceland where she spent her childhood. She was educated in Akureyri and Reykjavík and was an elementary school teacher in N-Iceland and in Reykjavík for a number of years. She is married and has three children and eight grandchildren. She made her debut as an author of children's books in 1982 and has published fifteen books for children and teenagers. She has also written number of books for the elementary school and the traffic school. Along with her sister, Kristín Steinsdóttir, she has written numerous plays for the stage and radio. One
of her books “Gegnum þyrnigerðið“ - “Durch die Dornenhecke“ was
published in Germany by Georg Bitter Verlag in the year 1993. Her present publisher is the SALKA PUBLISHING HOUSE Reykjavík. BOOKS

competition held by the Center for Educational Materials in 1984 Olla og Pési (Olla and Pete) won Reykjavík Educational Council Prize 1988. Gegnum Þyrnigerðið (Through the Thornhedge) won he Icelandic Children’s Books Award.Vaka-Helgafell 1991 and was entered in the IBBY roll of honour for 1992. Er allt að verða vitlaust? (Is Everything Going Crazy?) received an IBBY Iceland award
for 1994. In 1998 she got the “Hagþenkir“ prize for her textbooks on
Christianity, coscripted with Sigurður Pálsson,
written for use in the elementary school, but the prize is awarded for
outstanding textbooks. In 2000 she received Honorary Award of Icelandic Authors Librarium Fond. Her play 19. júní (June 19th), coscripted wih
her sister, Kristín, won a first prize in an Icelandic Natoinal Broadcsasting
Service competition in 1986 and their plays Mánablóm (Moon flowers) and
Randaflugur (Bumblebees) won joint second Prize in a Reykjavík City Theater
competition in 1989.
